Christopher Myers - An author/illustrator for all ages

Christopher Meyers was a featured speaker during the seminar on Sunday, May 8, 2011, at the International Reading Association's annual conference in Orlando Florida.

He has collaborated with his father Walter Dean Myers but is very well known in his own right.  My favorite of all time is his picture book innovation on Lewis Carroll's Jabberwocky ( Jump At The Sun, 2007).  Carroll's words are interpreted in a fresh new manner by Myers's splendid illustrations which he typically creates using collage, photos, woodcuts, and other artistic media.

His first Caldecott Honor Book was for a  collaboration with his father (Harlem, Scholastic) and his second for his own (Black Cat, Scholastic).

During this seminar session Chris spoke of the "elephant in the room" as a collective short unquestioned memory passed on to our children.  He is passionate about work with literacy in such places as Kenya and other areas where children only know the present and have no memory of the past.  Download Holiday House's brochure featuring Myers at http://www.holidayhouse.com/docs/Myers, Christopher-FINAL PDF.pdf
Information about Myers can also be found on Scholastic's site and the Reading Rocket site.
