Read to Cheer — Cheer on Reading Week

Read to Cheer—Cheer on Reading Week - 2010
Each year the Fernley (NV) Football League (which includes a "cheer" component for the girls) asks their teams to develop and hold a "fundraiser."  This year the Maverick Cheer group (and their coaches Christina McElmeel and Crystal Attwood) turned this blank check into a contribution of $723.00 by holding a Read to Cheer—Cheer on Reading Week.  Each participating member made a reading goal and solicited reading sponsors per page read, or a designated amount for reaching the set goal.
Collectively the group read hundreds of pages and were able to present the directors a check at their celebratory pizza party at Round Table Pizza in Fernley.  McBookwords was pleased and honored to sponsor this fundraiser by providing the promotional materials, the pizza party, and to provide a folder with a notebook, pencils, and a bookstore gift card to each participate.  Thank you to Christina and Crystal for the extra effort it took to help to surround this group of children with literacy and to encourage them to become lifelong reader — in addition to your season's work as cheer coaches.  A win-win for Maverick Cheer.  McBookwords was pleased to be a part of this literacy event in the Fernley community.

Entire Maverick Cheer group trying to look "mean."
As you can see most of them have a very difficult
time being anything but the happy, bubbly team
that they are.
