I'm okay at decorating cakes but it is such a tedious job. I am finding that "decorated" cakes are so much more fun -- none of the fancy sculpture just decorations. This one above uses a butter creme frosting, chopped walnuts on the side. A drizzle of red icing in a circle (in a wavy type pattern) and then garnished with strawberries cut in half (including the green stem). Add candles and a happy birthday script and you have it. Great looking - almost foolproof.
