Safe but not necessarily sound

After the last post I found out that Uncle Steve's home was surrounded by water -- and how far up is in question. It's hard to visualize how that might be. Reports have water up to the picture windows; but now we are thinking -- based on reports out, that the water may have just gotten to the first bank of outside steps. His home was on the far edge of the 500 year flood plain. So fingers crossed for the best. Steve and Jack are going through the check point this day at noon to get into the area to check the house. The concern is now that his limestone foundation may be been compromised. And pumping water from the basement may also compromise the soundness of the basement. More on the update.

A good day to break out Jane Kurtz's River Friendly River Wild -- her epic poem reflecting on her experiences living through the Red River Flood in Grand Forks.
