Lighthouse Chrismas by Toni Buzzeo

Lighthouse Christmas by Toni Buzzeo. Illustrated by Nancy Carpenter. Dial, 2011.
First Frances and Peter lose their mother and now the stormy waters mean that they face a Christmas without Santa. Even necessary supplies are difficult to get to their isolated Maine lighthouse island. On Christmas Eve, Papa rescues a man drowning in the wild waters. Frances and Peter realize that the holiday is really about being together. But the Christmas surprise is yet to come. Inspired by the Flying Santa program (begun in 1929) this story is a nostalgic look at an old tradition that continues today.
