Marco Polo (Sept 15, 1254-Jan 8, 1324)

A month ago, the anniversary of Marco Polo's birth (September 15, 1254) in Venice was noted.  Today (October 15) is the birthday of a person who is a great bakery/dessert chief.  She excels at everything she does.  Polo is probably the most famous Westerner traveler on the Silk Road. He excelled all the other travelers in his determination and resolve.
Marco Polo is said to have brought back coconuts and spices such as nutmeg and cloves.  This recipe for Marco Polo Bars, developed by the great bakery/dessert chief (here after known as GBDC) incorporates some of the flavors Polo brought back: coconut, nutmeg, cloves.
