Sweet as Honey - a gift idea

End of the year gift for a child's teacher came together when I found some "honeybee fabric" that reminded me of the busy bee theme that a kindergartener's teacher had used in her room all year long.
After reading several books aloud to the kindergarteners (see narrative about two of the books) - the children recognized a common element.  Many of the characters used scraps of things to make new gizmos and gadgets - in one case scraps of fabric were put together to make a quilt.  We employed that idea and each of the 22 students choose a scrap of fabric.  Twenty-two squares (plus 2 bee squares) were sewn together to make a 4x6 quilted center.  A border  with a wide band of the honeybee fabric was added.  The back was a golden yellow batik fabric.

Relaxation once the school year is over calls for a comforting cup of tea and some fun flavored tea.

And since the class was going to have an eXchange autograph day, we decided to make a journal for their teacher with all of the students' autographs (and a small picture).  We even talked about the fact that there is a term for an autograph accompanied by a small drawing.  remarque is a small, personalized drawing or symbol that an artist or author puts into a book, usually small and accompanying a signature on a regular book.  A honeybee slip cover was made for the journal.

And altogether with a green plant in a yellow flower pot ...
A year-end gift for a teacher to help her remember this very busy class of 22 kindergarteners.
Children decided they really wanted a purple pot as their teacher's favorite color is purple so we switched out the flower pot and it all did give the collection a different look.

You might wish to pair the honeybee themed gift ideas with a great book about honeybees.
